Youth Diabetes Camp

At Lake McCumber

With a beautiful wooded area, lake and recreation facility, this site offers the activities of outdoor camping while supplying the comforts of home - electricity, hot showers, cozy cabins and cafeteria style meals.

For years the Enterprise Lions club, along with other lions clubs in the district, have been building and maintaining cabins, facilities and grounds of the camp at Lake McCumber. We also provide funding for children with diabetes to attend the week long Lions Diabetes Camp, which is held annually at beautiful Lake McCumber just seven miles east of Shingletown and twelve miles west of Lassen Volcanic National Park, off Hwy 44.

This Diabetes Camp in Northern California at Camp McCumber is sponsored by the Lions’ Health Foundation (a 501-C3 foundation) of District 4-C1, a non-profit service organization.  The foundation is dedicated to providing fun and educational camping experiences for youth with health challenges, who would otherwise be denied the privilege.

The Lions Health Foundation has the following goals for young children with diabetes at this summer camp:

  1. A safe, healthy and enjoyable camp experience.

  2. Enable youth to meet and share their experiences with other diabetic youth.

  3. Empower campers to become responsible for individual control of their diabetes.

  4. Health program that is easy to understand.

  5. Outdoor recreational activities
